The company opened its doors as a silicone distributor in 1980 under the name Taylor Chemical. Manufacturing capability was added in the mid-1980s in response to market demand for formulated silicones. Taylor continued to grow and was acquired in 1998 by Amber Chemical Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Caledonia Investments PLC.
